There is a special prize for him and Trapattoni, the Firenze Sport, handed by Mayor Domenici. The prize is a silver plate with the figure of Michelangelo's Vittoria (Victory) engraved on it. After the vanished victory in Stockholm here comes a little joy and consolation and for Reconquista's champion there is still much more to come.
There is an exhibition titled 'Batistuta men and champion' at Fortezza da Basso, which shows pictures of the finest moments of his career and life. There are also the objects which have accompanied him during his years in Italy. There is a brand new Internet site (the web address is: www.batistuta.com), with his history, fotogallery, chatline, room for messages, statisticts related to his goals and victories and above all with the videos of his deeds and all his interviews.
"A beautiful thing - he comments - for which my friends worked a lot. Visit the site, it's worth it." But the most important moment of the day is the final party, still at Fortezza da Basso, the same place, to be more clear, where the most important events of Florence season take place: Pitti Moda, the handicraft exhibition and all the other events which require a fairground structure.
1000 guests, who included, of course, his family, his team mates, his friends and his greatest supporters. There are white and violet flowers on all tables, a typical Tuscan menu, with spelt salad, fillet and toasted bread, gratinated fagottini, chianino viel and a special cake, called: Cake of the Lion. Then, all together to sing an hymn to Batistuta on the music of the Italian song 'C'era un ragazzo che come me'.
A special day, during which he received the news of his call to play with his national team for the friendly match against Colombia. FIRENZE — Batistuta fa gol anche in giacca e cravatta. Con il suo sorriso
illumina il Salone dei Cinquecento nel Palazzo Vecchio, dove aleggia l'atmofera di tutta la storia della città di Firenze, e con poche ma splendide frasi completa l'opera. «Ogni volta che Firenze mi dimostra il suo affetto — dice manifestando un po' di emozione, il giocatore argentino — rimango senza parole, per questo non ho molto da dire. Spero solo di meritare tutti questi riconoscimenti come ho fatto fino ad ora. Penso di essermi comportato abbastanza bene e spero di continuare così a lungo. Sono un calciatore, cerco di dare il meglio di me stesso sempre, ma tutto quello che questa città fa per me è sempre di più».
E' il Batistuta Day, il giorno che Firenze ha deciso di dedicare al suo campione più caro e poco importa se arriva in un momento non felicissimo per la squadra. Per lui, e per Trapattoni, c'è un premio speciale, il Firenze sport consegnato dal sindaco Domenici, rappresentato da un piatto d'argento con su incisa la figura della Vittoria di Michelangelo. Dopo la vittoria sfumata a Stoccolma un po' di gioia e di consolazione, anche perché per il campione di Reconquista c'è di più.
C'è una mostra dal titolo: «Batistuta uomo e campione», allestita alla Fortezza da Basso, con tutte le foto dei momenti più belli della sua carriera e della sua vita e con gli oggetti che lo hanno accompagnato in questi anni in Italia. C'è un sito Internet nuovo di zecca (l'indirizzo è: www. batistuta. com), con la sua storia, la fotogallery, la chatline, lo spazio per i messaggi, le statistiche relative ai suoi tantissimi gol e alle sue vittorie e, soprattutto, i video delle sue imprese e tutte le sue interviste.
«Una bella cosa — commenta — per la quale i miei amici hanno fatto tanto lavoro, visitate il sito, ne vale la pena». Ma il momento clou della giornata è la festa finale, ancora alla Fortezza da Basso, lo stesso luogo, per essere più chiari, dove si svolgono gli eventi più importanti della stagione fiorentina: Pitti moda, la mostra dell'artigianato e tutte le altre che richiedono un impianto fieristico.
Mille gli invitati, tra i quali, naturalmente, la sua famiglia, poi i suoi compagni, gli amici e i più grandi tifosi. Fiori bianchi e viola a ogni tavolo, menù tipicamente toscano, con insalata di farro, filetto e crostini, fagottini gratinati, vitello chianino e una torta speciale, chiamata: Torta del leone. Poi tutti insieme a cantare un inno a Batistuta sulle note di «C'era un ragazzo che come me».
Un giorno speciale, insomma, nel quale, tra l'altro, gli è arrivata anche la
notizia della nuova convocazione nella nazionale argentina per l'amichevole
contro la Colombia. Una chiamata, quella del commissario tecnico Bielsa, che
lo costringerà a un altro viaggio lungo e faticoso, ma che rappresenta anche
un riconoscimento per le sue qualità, una bella rivincita dopo la rinuncia alla Coppa America. Un segnale dal quale Batigol non poteva che trarre buoni auspici per il futuro dei viola. Lui, infatti, ha già dimenticato il pareggio di Stoccolma e guarda avanti con fiducia: «Siamo in corsa, anche se le difficoltà non mancano. Noi non ci arrendiamo, dovremo vincere due partite e non perdere la terza, poi aspettare i risultati degli altri. Il traguardo non è semplice ma neppure impossibile e noi abbiamo dato importanti segnali di ripresa. Finalmente siamo riusciti a reagire, o almeno abbiamo dimostrato di poterlo are, adesso non possiamo che migliorare».
L'argentino allontana tutte le ombre dall'attacco gigliato, non cade nella
trappola tesa dalle statistiche e non si preoccupa per lo scarso bottino di reti fatto registrare finora in Champions League: «Quando le cose non vanno bene ci si scatena alla ricerca dei difetti, ma sia chiaro che il gol non è un problema per questa squadra, non lo è mai stato e non lo sarà in futuro. Io, tra l'altro, ho già fatto quattro gol in campionato, quindi non soffro certo di astinenza. La verità e che fino ad ora ci è mancato solo il gioco e basta.
Adesso, però, siamo sulla strada giusta per ritrovare anche quest'ultimo e
questo ci rende più tranquilli. Pure la sosta potrebbe aiutarci, perché deve
essere chiaro anche un altro concetto: noi puntiamo a due obiettivi e non
mettiamo il campionato in subordine alla Champions League. Non sono
d'accordo con chi ritiene impossibile il doppio impegno, non vedo dove stia il problema, siamo attrezzati per competere su più fronti. Datemi retta, quello che stiamo superando è semplicemente un periodo nero, una cosa normale che nell'arco della stagione capita a tutte le squadre. A noi è capitato adesso. Ora però pensiamo alla Roma, una sfida difficile dopo la battaglia contro il Solna, abbiamo tre giorni per recuperare e le insidie non mancano, ma dopo con la sosta potremo finalmente tirare il fiato».
